How to Make Stencils With Cricut: Ultimate Tutorial
Hey guys! Can you create stencils with your Cricut? If not, I’ve got you covered here! In this blog, you will learn how to make stencils with Cricut in 4 easy steps. Yes, you heard that right. It’s just four steps away!
Initially, making stencils with Cricut machines was a bit tough for me. However, I always wanted to give it a try. I knew I was a beginner then, and I didn’t know what and how to draw or cut things on Cricut. For this, I took the help of some online tutorials, which helped me thrive in this crafting world. Although this journey was not easy, it was also exciting.
Now, I have become completely successful in crafting. In the blog, I will walk you through each step of creating beautiful stencils. Don’t worry, I will make
Step 1: Collect Materials and Tools
I know you are eager to learn how to make stencils with Cricut. But before that, I will show you the materials and tools I used for making stencils. So, look at the following list, which includes all the materials and tools required for stencils.
● A Cricut cutting machine such as Maker 3, Explore 3, and Joy
● Adhesive Vinyl
● Cutting Mat
● Weeding & Scraper Tool
● Paint, Stain, or Pens
● Transfer Tape
Step 2: Create a Stencil Design on Canvas
I am going to create a stencil design on my Cricut Design Space, a companion application to create a design. So, here, I am making simple text-based designs. Here, I am not making something very complex. So, just chill!
Draw or Add a Design
If you prefer, you can either buy an SVG file from an online store or choose from the Cricut Access library. Otherwise, just add the simple text and choose a stylish font to make it eye-catching.
Add a Square Shape
Now, I have completed my design. It’s time to add a shape around the stencil design. Adding a shape is simple; all you need to do is go to the Shapes section in the left bar panel and choose a Square.
I am adding a square box because I need my final project in this particular shape. Once the shape is added, you have to right-click on it and choose the Send to Back option (To send the shape behind your design).
Attach Your Design
Since we have added a shape and design together, it is still not fixed. In simpler terms, if you want to avoid your design elements from moving here and there, you should select the whole design and select the option Attach. As a result, each and every element of your design will be fixed together, making it easy to resize it.
Now, I have explained to you how to make stencils with Cricut. It’s time to cut what we have made into Design Space.
Step 3: Cut and Weed Out
Then, here comes the exciting part - Cutting! Prepare the cutting mat and feed the smart materials into your Cricut. Another thing you should note is that you’ll not need to mirror your design when using a self-adhesive vinyl. Besides, you have to place the color side upward.
After that, cut the vinyl and weed it using your weeding tool. Once you’ve weeded it, apply the transfer tape.
You should lay the transfer tape (adhesive side) on the downside and use your scraper tool to transfer the stencil vinyl onto your tape. This proce
Step 4: Apply and Remove the Transfer Tape
Finally, we have completed all the steps to make stencils. Here is the last step in placing the Stencil design onto my wooden board.
Follow the points given below to apply and remove the stencil accordingly:
- First of all, check the alignment of your design to your project.
- Peel off the transfer tape carefully and then place it on board.
- Use the scraper tool to apply the tape evenly onto the surface.
- Afterward, just peel off the transfer tape at a 45° angle.
- Finally, you will get your stencil vinyl on your project surface.
- Now, add some creativity by adding paint using your stencil brush or using a sponge brush.
Now, here you go!
Finally, you have completed your first stencil project. Follow the similar steps for other stencils if you wish to make them.
